Computational Fluid Dynamics: Simulation and Analysis of an Amateur Rocket

Location
UC Davis COSMOS
Info
Amateur Rockets operating in the supersonic regime confront severe decreases in stability due to shifts in their center of pressure from aerodynamic forces. Accurate modeling of the phenomena is necessary to ensure a stable flight and minimize risk. Utilizing Ansys Fluent, we can comprehensively model the system and compare its results with software utilizing variations of the Barrowman Method. It is expected that the modeled rocket will remain stable throughout the entire velocity range it will experience and will produce results similar to existing software.
